Bu çalışmamızda Orta Çağ Avrupa’sında Valdoculuk diye bilinen Hristiyan tarikatını inceleyeceğiz. Öncelikle, Katolikler tarafından heretik kabul edilen bu tarikatın kuruluş sürecini ve bu konudaki iddiaları ele alacağız. Hareketin ortaya çıkmasıyla ilgili kaynak yetersizliklerini ve bunun sebebini irdeleyeceğiz. Bunun sebebini onların erken dönemde Papalık ile ilişkisinde aramaktayız. Vaaz verme tartışması, aforoz edilme süreci ve baskıların başlaması bu ilişkide el alacağımız hususlardır. Tarikatın Roma ile bağlanın kopmasından sonra öğretisinde değişiklikler olduğu görülmektedir. Çünkü aforoz edilmeden önce Roma ile mümkün mertebe bağları koparmamaya çalışırken, sonrasında görüşlerini daha net bir şekilde ortaya koymuştur. Özellikle üzerinde durmak istediğimiz konu Valdocuların aforoz edilme gerekçelerinin siyasi mi yoksa doktirinel bir anlaşmazlıktan mı kaynaklandığıdır. Nitekim Fransiskenler ile benzer bir şekilde yola çıkmışlarken, Valdocular aforoz edilmiş fakat Fransiskenler Kilise tarafından himaye edilmiştir. Bunun yanında, Katharlar ve Reformistler gibi dini öğretiler ile mukayese etmekte fayda görmekteyiz. Özellikle İncilin yerel dillere çevirisi konusundaki gayretlerine ve Papalık otoritesine karşı başkaldırılarına baktığımızda Reform hareketi ile benzerlikleri dikkatimizi çekmektedir. Hatta bazı araştırmacıların onları proto-reformist olarak değerlendirdikleri görülmektedir. Çalışmamızı ağırlıklı olarak Valdo’nun ortaya çıktığı 1170’ler ile başlatıp XII. yüzyılın ilk yarısı ile sınırlı tutmaya gayret ettik.

In this study, we will examine the Christian sect known as Waldensians in Medieval Europe. We will start by discussing the establishment process of this sect, which is considered heretical by Catholics, and the claims on this subject. We will examine the lack of resources and the reason for this during the period when the movement appeared. We seek the reason for this in their early relationship with the Papacy. It is at this time that we will consider the topic of preaching, their excommunication and the beginning of persecution. It is seen that there were changes in the teaching of the sect after the ties with Rome were broken. Because he tried not to break ties with Rome as much as possible before he was excommunicated, and then he put forward his views more boldly. The issue we want to focus on is whether the reasons for excommunication of Waldensians stem from a political or doctrinal disagreement. As a matter of fact, while the Franciscans started out in a similar way, the Waldensians were excommunicated, but the Franciscans were protected by the Church. In addition, we find it useful to compare it with religious teachings such as the Cathars and the Reformists. It draws attention to its similarities with the Reform movement, especially due to its efforts in the translation of the Bible into local languages and their rebellion against the Papal authority.
